WHEN WILL JESUS COME BACK
The question of when Jesus will return has been a topic of much discussion and speculation among Christians for centuries. According to the Bible, Jesus himself spoke about His return in passages such as Matthew 24:36, where He said, “But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.”
Several key points from Scripture highlight the unpredictability and suddenness of Jesus’ return:
No One Knows the Day or Hour: As mentioned in Matthew 24:36, only God the Father knows the exact time of Jesus’ return.
Signs of the Times: Jesus described various signs that would precede His coming, such as wars, famines, earthquakes, and the spread of the gospel (Matthew 24:6-14). However, these signs are general and have been observed throughout history, so they do not provide a precise timeline.
Be Prepared: Jesus emphasized the importance of being prepared and living in a state of readiness, as His return will be unexpected. He used parables like the Ten Virgins (Matthew 25:1-13) and the Faithful and Wise Servant (Matthew 24:45-51) to illustrate this point.
The Day of the Lord: The Apostle Paul wrote about the return of Christ in 1 Thessalonians 5:2, describing it as coming “like a thief in the night.” This emphasizes the sudden and unexpected nature of His return.
Encouragement to Live Righteously: The Bible encourages believers to live righteous and holy lives in anticipation of Jesus’ return. In 2 Peter 3:10-14, Peter describes how the day of the Lord will come unexpectedly and encourages believers to live godly lives, looking forward to the new heaven and new earth.
While the exact timing of Jesus’ return is unknown, the consistent message of Scripture is to live faithfully and be ready at all times. The hope of His return is a central aspect of Christian faith, providing comfort and motivation to live according to God’s will.
