Today, we embark on a profound journey to understand who God is. Knowing God’s nature is fundamental to our faith and helps us build a deeper relationship with Him.
Scripture Reading:
Let’s begin with a scripture from Exodus 3:14 (NIV): “God said to Moses, ‘I AM WHO I AM. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: I AM has sent me to you.'”
The Eternal and Self-Existent God:
God introduces Himself to Moses as “I AM,” signifying His eternal existence and self-sufficiency. God is not dependent on anything or anyone; He is the source of all life and being. Revelation 1:8 (NIV) declares, “I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty.”
The Creator of All:
Genesis 1:1 (NIV) states, “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.” God is the Creator of the entire universe, demonstrating His power, wisdom, and creativity. Everything we see around us is a testament to His majesty and glory.
The God of Love:
1 John 4:8 (NIV) tells us, “Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.” Love is at the very core of God’s nature. His love is unconditional, sacrificial, and eternal, epitomized by the sacrifice of His Son, Jesus Christ, for our salvation.
The Holy and Righteous God:
God is holy and righteous, meaning He is morally perfect and just in all His ways. Isaiah 6:3 (NIV) records the seraphim calling out, “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord Almighty; the whole earth is full of his glory.” God’s holiness sets Him apart, and His righteousness ensures that He is always fair and just.
The Omnipresent, Omniscient, and Omnipotent God:
God is omnipresent, meaning He is present everywhere at all times. Psalm 139:7-10 (NIV) beautifully expresses this: “Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.”
God is omniscient, knowing everything past, present, and future. Psalm 147:5 (NIV) says, “Great is our Lord and mighty in power; his understanding has no limit.”
God is omnipotent, possessing all power. Jeremiah 32:17 (NIV) proclaims, “Ah, Sovereign Lord, you have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and outstretched arm. Nothing is too hard for you.”
The Faithful and Unchanging God:
God is faithful and unchanging. He keeps His promises and remains constant in His character and purposes. Hebrews 13:8 (NIV) states, “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” God’s unchanging nature gives us security and confidence in His promises.
The Personal and Relational God:
God desires a personal relationship with each of us. He is not a distant or detached deity but one who invites us into fellowship with Him. Revelation 3:20 (NIV) says, “Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.”
Conclusion:
Understanding who God is enriches our faith and draws us closer to Him. He is our Creator, Sustainer, Savior, and Friend. Let us worship Him in awe and reverence, trusting in His infinite love and wisdom.
