The Birth of Jesus
Location: Jesus was born in Bethlehem, a small town in Judea. This location fulfilled the prophecy from Micah 5:2 (NIV): “But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come for me one who will be ruler over Israel, whose origins are from of old, from ancient times.”
Circumstances:
Parents: Mary and Joseph. Mary was a virgin betrothed to Joseph.
Journey to Bethlehem: Mary and Joseph traveled from Nazareth to Bethlehem due to a decree from Caesar Augustus that required everyone to return to their ancestral towns to be registered for a census (Luke 2:1-5).
Birthplace: Jesus was born in a manger because there was no room for them in the inn (Luke 2:7).
Annunciation to Shepherds:
Luke 2:8-14 (NIV): Angels announced Jesus’ birth to shepherds in the fields, bringing “good news that will cause great joy for all the people.”
The shepherds visited Jesus and spread the word about what they had been told about the child (Luke 2:15-20).
Visit of the Magi:
Matthew 2:1-12 (NIV): Wise men from the East followed a star to find and worship the newborn king. They brought gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.
Their visit also fulfilled prophecies and highlighted Jesus’ significance not just to the Jews but to the entire world.
