Spread the love

as believers, we hold fast to the promise that Jesus is indeed coming back. This is a central hope in our faith, one that Jesus Himself assured His followers of and that is echoed throughout the New Testament.

In John 14:2-3, Jesus tells His disciples, “I am going to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me.” This promise brings hope to our hearts, reminding us that Jesus’ return is both personal and purposeful. He longs to bring us into His eternal presence.

The apostles continued this message. In Acts 1:11, after Jesus ascended to heaven, two angels told the disciples, “This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven.” And in Revelation 22:20, Jesus Himself says, “Yes, I am coming soon.” These promises remind us to be ready, to live in expectation, and to carry out His mission of love and truth.

Now, while we don’t know the exact day or hour, as Jesus tells us in Matthew 24:36, we are called to live in a way that reflects His love, ready for His return. This doesn’t mean living in fear or trying to predict dates—it means living faithfully each day, sharing His love, and staying close to Him in prayer, worship, and service. The promise of Jesus’ return isn’t just a distant hope; it shapes the way we live here and now. Knowing that He is coming back gives us purpose, direction, and urgency. In Titus 2:13, Paul describes it as our “blessed hope,” calling believers to “live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in this present age, while we wait for the blessed hope—the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ.”

The fact that Jesus is coming back should inspire us to live with intentionality and compassion. We aren’t just here waiting idly; we have a calling to fulfill His mission. Jesus calls us to “make disciples of all nations” (Matthew 28:19), sharing the Good News so that others, too, can experience the love and redemption He offers. This mission becomes even more urgent when we remember that His return could come at any time.

Jesus’ return also provides comfort during trials and hardships. In a world filled with suffering, pain, and uncertainty, we can hold onto the promise that one
